The fifth generation of VW’s evergreen Golf came along at the end of 2004 and marked a major step forward for the model, bringing in an entirely new platform and far sharper handling and steering than its predecessor.
Like all Golfs, the Mk 5 enjoyed a period as Britain’s most desirable second-hand car, and while that mantle has now been passed down to the Golf Mk 7 and Mk 8, the Mk 5 still remains sought-after, especially in excellent condition.

The Golf is being offered for sale by a classic car enthusiast who bought it when it was about four years old for his mother-in-law.

As you’d expect from a car with less than 30,000 miles on the clock, the cabin of the Golf is in excellent order with no discernible signs of wear, just a few very light scuffs to the interior plastics and a bit of ingrained dirt in the boot floor from where the previous keeper used to transport plants.
The Golf is in great condition with no signs of corrosion or any panel damage, the only very minor issues being a couple of very small scratches on the rear bumper and one headlamp that has gone ever-so slightly cloudy around the edges.
VW’s FSI engine, which stands for Stratified Fuel Injection, was introduced when the Mk 5 first appeared and is electronically controlled to increase fuel pressure under acceleration but reduce it when load is reduced for extra economy. It makes the petrol-powered Golf an economical cruiser.
