The Appeal
A spiritual successor to the iconic 300 SL, the SLS AMG pairs gullwing doors with a hand-built, naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 producing 563bhp - a combination that has cemented its place as one of the most desirable modern supercars, with gleefully evocative styling, charismatic features and a sonorous engine note With production having ended in 2014 after only around 13,000 units built, the SLS has rapidly become a sought-after collector's piece, and fine examples are increasingly hard to come by.
Jeremy Clarkson perhaps said it best. "This is the greatest car on earth [...] it's more powerful than the Ferrari 458, louder than any Lamborghini [...] This is the thinking man's supercar."
This right-hand-drive example is finished in Sapphire Red Metallic over black Nappa semi-aniline leather with anthracite accents, and benefits from a generous factory specification including the AMG ceramic brake system, carbon fibre high-gloss trim, sports suspension, AMG performance steering wheel, rear-view camera, high-end sound system, and COMAND APS. Crucially, it remains entirely unmodified.
Showing 42,116 miles, the car has been in the current keeper's hands since 2017 and has been carefully stored throughout that period. It has recently undergone a Service B at Mercedes-Benz Winchester and comes with an MOT valid to June 2027. The vendor reports that the car presents well throughout and drives as it should - a startling opportunity to acquire one of Stuttgart's modern greats.OUL_9772 Luke Papworth.jpg5.82 MB

From top to bottom, the C197 conjures up the golden age of Mercedes-Benz. The styling is gleefully retro, with charismatic gullwing doors that still garner plenty of admiration. Perfectly picked out in Sapphire Red Metallic, this example is a great ambassador, and a very well-kept one. With only gentle wear that reflects the car's low mileage, it still shines, with the odd stone chip or mark doing little to detract from its handsome lines.
Inside the sporty, determined cabin, everything is in fine order. The black leather upholstery is in superb condition, facing a handsome dashboard with plenty of high-gloss carbon fibre and an array of clean, legible instruments and features - that we're told are still in fine working order.
No known faults; the vendor reports the car runs and drives as it should
The SLS AMG's M159 engine was, according to AMG, "the world's most powerful naturally aspirated production series engine" - and it's hard to deny their word. The C197 is capable of 563 hp and a top speed of 196mph, handling itself with the rawness you'd expect of AMG's finest. There's a real, muscular nature to these cars, beautifully analogue and alive like a wild thing on the tarmac.
This example is a great ambassador, with a lovely clean engine bay, and an advisory-free MOT. The vendor reports that the car is driving exactly as it should and is ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper.
