The Appeal
The final-generation Land Rover Defender is one of the most capable off-road vehicles ever produced, and the 2016 model year represents one of the very last to leave the Solihull production line. Combine that well-known go-anywhere ability with a professional Dormobile camper conversion and you have a vehicle that can not only reach the most remote locations but stay there in comfort.
This Montalcino Red Defender was originally purchased new by Dormobile, who subsequently carried out a comprehensive camper conversion around 2021/22. The current keeper acquired it in 2023 with just 500 miles on the clock, initially storing it before putting it into more regular use. It has now covered fewer than 19,500 miles in total. The conversion includes a pop-top roof with an upper two-berth sleeping area, a slide-out bench forming a lower berth, kitchen facilities, an Eberspacher heater and a solar panel feeding a leisure battery. Further expedition-ready additions include a Safari Snorkel, chequer-plated bonnet and front wings, roof-mounted spotlights and a tow bar.
The vendor describes the bodywork as presenting very well, noting only some flaking paint on the front roof rack and minor cosmetic wear to the side steps. The underside was cleaned and treated with Lanoguard in late 2024, and the vehicle holds an MOT valid until May 2027 with no advisories. With its low mileage and genuine off-grid capability, this Defender presents an interesting opportunity for anyone seeking a capable expedition camper built on a well-proven platform.
