Description
The Scimitar SE4 GT Coupe was the result of the very successful collaboration between the talented Ogle design team and the Reliant Motor Company. Reliant badly needed a replacement for their rally proven Sabre Six and Ogle had the the pretty GT design called the SX 250. The result was the SE4 Straight Six which set new standards in appearance, performance, and equipment in the sports car world at the 1964 Earls Court Motor Show.
HJA 796E is the very last registered SE4 Straight Six Coupe of the 296 which were all manufactured from 1964 to 1966. Straight Six acquired the car from the estate of the previous owner who had the car for over 40 years without ever having it running. The huge amount of paperwork and correspondence present comprises a history not just of the car but also the RSSOC and the great names of the Scimitar world from that period. Straight Six carried out a full body off, nut and bolt restoration of the car including several weeks of just chassis repairs. We specifically tried to refurbish and use every item or part which the previous owner accumulated to keep the car true to its origins and this included the original engine which had been specially rebuilt, tuned and increased to 2800cc. After refinishing in the original Manhatton Blue HJA 796E was after many decades returned to the road and is now an exceptional example of one of the rarest and prettiest GT cars to hit the road in the 1960’s.
