1932 Alvis 12/ 60 TL Sports Saloon – Original Registration & Factory Build Sheet
Produced during 1931–32, the Alvis 12/ 60 represented the final development of an iconic Vintage design, the original 12/ 50 having first appeared in 1923. The TL Series was the last iteration and benefitted from a number of desirable improvements, including knock-off wheels and a tachometer.
Powered by a lively 1645cc engine with twin SU carburettors, just 229 examples were produced. Period coachwork options included tourers, sporting two-seaters and sports saloons such as the attractive Cross & Ellis-bodied example offered here.
This particular car has clearly enjoyed long-term enthusiast ownership and presents today as a charming, well-sorted and highly usable Vintage Alvis. Restored many years ago, it retains an appealing period character and gentle patina that suits the car extremely well.
During the current ownership, it has been regularly used, carefully maintained and enjoyed as intended, resulting in a car that feels established and well developed rather than recently restored.
Pleasingly, the car retains its original Coventry registration number and is accompanied by an RF60 logbook dating back to 1948. The substantial history file includes invoices and maintenance records dating from the early 1960s onwards, the first MOT certificate issued in 1962 and, perhaps most importantly, the original factory Build Sheet.
Alvis models of this era retaining their original saloon coachwork are becoming increasingly scarce. Combining excellent provenance, extensive history and genuine usability, this is a delightful Vintage motor car ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
