1932 Alvis 12/ 60 TL Sports Saloon by Cross & Ellis | Rare | Original Reg | History File
One of just 229 built, the Alvis 12/ 60 represents the final development of an iconic Vintage design, the original 12/ 50 having first appeared in 1923. The TL Series was the last and most refined iteration, featuring desirable details such as knock-off wheels and a tachometer.
Powered by a 1645cc engine with twin SU carburettors, the 12/ 60 was a highly capable car in period, noted for its excellent road holding and the ability to approach 80 mph. Coachwork options included tourers, ‘Beetleback’ sports models and sports saloons, as offered here.
This particular example is a TL Sports Saloon with attractive Cross & Ellis coachwork. Restored many years ago, it now presents with a lovely mellow character and honest patina. During current ownership, it has been well maintained by an experienced enthusiast and used regularly, which always speaks well.
Pleasingly, the car retains its original Coventry registration number and is accompanied by an RF60 logbook dating back to 1948. The history file is substantial, including invoices and notes from the early 1960s onwards, the first MOT certificate issued in 1962, and the original factory Build Sheet.
Alvis saloons of this era with original coachwork are becoming increasingly scarce. A charming and very usable example, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
