The Appeal
The 1000S was the last of the ‘proper’ DKWs. As such, it was the final flourish for the firm’s innovative engineers, a team of people who delivered a stylish car with an array of clever flourishes. These well-built and surprisingly quick cars handled really well. They were familiar to racing and rallying fans and are popular today with anyone with a penchant for the quirky, unusual and leftfield thinking.
This car spent its life in Sweden before arriving in the UK in 2010. In 2018, it was sent to Tim Bishop at Connaught Green, where the engine was fully rebuilt and the running gear checked over and overhauled where needed. The work included light upgrades to tweak the car for competitive use. It has since appeared and participated in several events, notably the 2019 Boness Revival Hillclimb, where it won the Jim Clark Celebration Class on handicap.
It appeared at the 2018 Goodwood Members Meet and was invited to the 2022 Jackie Stewart Classic event at Thirlestane Castle.
In good, usable condition and equipped with a vast history file that attests to its long-term current keeper’s enthusiast custodianship, this is a lovely example that is ready to enjoy.
The vendor says:
“A quirky, unusual car with a delightful soundtrack, exciting to drive and some interesting history.”
