The Appeal
For many, the 1800S is the definitive Swedish classic. Elegant, Italian-influenced coachwork was married up to Volvo's legendary hardware, offering endurance that remains unparalleled in a very handsome package. It's little wonder Roger Moore was put behind it in The Saint; it's an achingly cool machine that still carries a rather timeless edge. The 'S' marks that the car was built in Sweden rather than West Bromwich, eliminating the latter's foibles courtesy of the Jensen production lines.
This 1965 example has been in the current owner's care for approximately 40 years and is reported to retain its matching numbers. Over that period it has undergone a thorough restoration covering bodywork, engine and interior. Corroded body panels were cut out and replaced before a respray in the original grey, while the engine was rebuilt by a Volvo dealer.
Inside, the seats and front door armrests have been retrimmed in goat's leather, period-correct carpets have been fitted, and the dashboard instruments have been refurbished. It's reportedly not been extensively driven since.
