The Appeal
In the 60s, 70s and 80s Mercedes-Benz pulled off a clever trick: building a quality, durable saloon that appealed equally to taxi drivers and top tier executives. This car, a second generation W110 200D, was definitely built for the former category.
We love a working car at Car & Classic and this one began its life as exactly that. The vendor tells us that its early life was spent either as a taxi or hire car. With its frugal but not exactly sprightly 2L OM621 diesel engine, a life trundling around city centres seems highly likely.
This tidy and solid example is finished in cream with tan MB Tex interior. The W110 200D was built from 1965 to 1968. The vendor tells us that this car was first registered in Spain in 1975. In recent years it has been part of an 80-car private collection and little used.
The car was working perfectly and carried a valid Spanish ITV eight years ago. The vendor tells us that it starts and runs but will need a check over and some mechanical work due to that lack of use.
Once sorted and back on the road this stylish Stuttgart classic works equally as an economical, rugged daily and interesting show car.
