The Appeal

How great it would have been to be in the market for a sports car in the 50s. Buyers were spoilt for choice, but for those with deeper pockets and a need for speed there was really only one choice - Donald Healey’s evocative Big Healey. Dropping the torquey C Series straight six beneath the bonnet of the existing 100/4 delivered the performance and soundtrack this beautiful car really needed.

For serious Healey fans, the 100/6 is the purest iteration of this long-lived design. These early cars have detail features, particularly in the cabin, that make them particularly desirable. This 1957 car was factory supplied with optional overdrive. Like most 100/6, it began its life in the USA before returning home in 2013. A restoration began the same year but sadly stalled when the then-keeper became ill. It was picked up again in 2018 and completed by the current keeper who acquired the car in 2021.

The work has been done to a high standard and the Ivory White paintwork and black interior are pleasingly factory correct. We’re told that the cosmetic work included rechroming and refurbishing exterior parts, fitting new tyres and retrimming the interior. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt. £16,000 was expended on parts alone, excluding the engine and gearbox. A large history file documents the work in photos and invoices.

The car has only covered 36 miles since completion, so consequently remains in very good order. A May 2024 voluntary MOT shows no advisories, since when the car has covered just 2 miles.

Here is a chance to acquire a restored car that has been barely used since, meaning the buyer gets the full benefit of all that investment.

“This early 100 6 is in lovely condition and basically has no rust on it. The car drives as an early 100 6 should. Only a few miles are shown on the speedo, which was re-set when it was overhauled.”
