The Appeal
Nothing comes close to embodying '60s America quite like a gold Cadillac. The sheer visual impact of these cars alone is quite remarkable. "It makes people drop their chips when you drive by", the vendor says...
The 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado was a landmark motor car: the second year of General Motors' dramatic personal luxury coupé, combining bold knife-edge styling with front-wheel drive and a brand new 7.7-litre V8, exclusive to the Eldorado. It was a car that turned heads from the moment it appeared, and famously, Elvis Presley bought Priscilla one in this very Shalimar Gold colour for Christmas in December 1967.
This example benefits from a remarkably well-documented life. The second owner, a collector in Vero Beach, Florida, kept the car in climate-controlled storage for some 20 years. The third owner continued that careful stewardship, also storing the car in a climate-controlled environment while undertaking a thorough three-year restoration. That work is recorded in a detailed spreadsheet and supported by invoices, covering everything from new brakes, axles, ball joints, and shocks to a fresh radiator, master cylinder, and brake servo. The car was also repainted in Shalimar Gold, with new gold carpets, a new vinyl top, renewed chrome trim and emblems, and Magnaflow mufflers fitted to the exhaust.
Since importing the car from Florida, the current owner has invested in a full gearbox rebuild by Alders Automatics .The vendor states that they are the car's fourth registered keeper. The vendor encourages viewing before bidding and will make an effort to accommodate the same.
Used only in summer for cruising and shows, this Eldorado is said to drive very well and sound great. For those seeking a striking and well-documented example of one of America's most iconic personal luxury coupés, this Eldorado surely fits the bill.
The vendor adds:
"One heck of a lot of 60s Cadillac cool for the money, to drive as is or continue to improve in the future. It drives very well, sounds awesome. What do I love most about it? The shape, just so cool."image.png1.28 MB
