The appeal
The Ford Escort Mk2 holds an important place in the history of compact sports cars. Whilst the RS2000 and Mexico are now the best-known versions, the so-called ‘Fast Road’ conversions allowed, at the time, for more modest versions to be transformed into higher-performance cars suitable for road use.
This 1978 example was originally a 1300 GT. It has been restored and modified in this spirit, notably with the fitting of a 1,800 cm³ Ford Pinto engine paired with a pair of Dell’Orto DLRA 40 carburettors and a genuine period Ford Group 1 intake manifold.
The mechanical specification also includes electronic ignition, a Facet fuel pump with a Filter King pressure regulator, a high-capacity aluminium radiator with a Spal electric fan, and a 4-into-1 exhaust manifold. The seller states that the engine starts easily, idles steadily and does not overheat.
The four-speed, short-throw gearbox has recently had its oil changed. The braking system has undergone a major overhaul, including new calipers, aviation-grade hoses and a replacement of the brake fluid.
The bodywork has been restored and, according to the seller, is in very good overall condition. The interior features an RS2000-style dashboard with a clock and semi-bucket seats. Cibié long-range headlights, RS-style alloy wheels and the 1600 Sport exterior finish complete the look.
An FFSA passport is supplied with the car. Its contents and validity will enable you to determine precisely which events the car is eligible to enter.FORD ESCORT 11 Stéphane DAGUET.jpg16.93 MB
