The Appeal
Colin Chapman really was onto something. The Caterham Supersprint offers arguably the purest expression of his lightweight, driver-focused motoring, a car built around the simple philosophy of minimal weight and maximum engagement. Powered by the venerable Kent crossflow engine with dry sump lubrication and breathing through a side-exit sport exhaust, it rewards its driver with unfiltered feedback.
This 1995 example has had just one registered keeper since it was first registered in April 1995. It was assembled by the owner and his father, a trained RAF mechanic, before being checked and rolling-road tuned by John Noble Motorsport in Chesterfield. It has only ever been used on the road, never seeing a race circuit, track day, or hill climb.
Significant recent investment has kept this Supersprint in fine fettle, with a new aluminium body and front wings in 2023 and a thorough service in 2025. A rolling road session that year confirmed 129 BHP. With every MOT certificate retained from new and invoices for all work carried out, this is a well-sorted Supersprint with strong provenance.image.png1.72 MB

All the complete kit was supplied by Caterham. The rear live axle from Caterham was a reconditioned one from a Ital with all new internals. That is how Caterham supplied them back then. The local vehicle licensing man in Sheffield would only give me a Q plate as although everything was brand new the outer shell of the live axle was not new. When the car came off a local garage ramp a couple of weeks ago the exhaust caught the ramp and ripped a small tear in the aluminium skin on that side so I had it replaced. However for the car to look good I decided to have all the aluminium skin replaced so it was complete. Any other questions please ask

Can you advise why it needed to be repanelled. Also why is the car on a Q plate, was this due to used major components being supplied by the builder rather than supplied as part of a new kit from Caterham?
