This striking, highly desirable 1990 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 4 Cabriolet comes to us as a superbly presented example of this rapidly appreciating air-cooled classic. Finished in its timeless colour combination, this fabulous driving car has covered a total of 117, 000 miles from new, with a mere 3, 000 miles covered over the last ten years. This low recent usage indicates the car has been a cherished weekend toy, kept for high-days and holidays.
On the road, the legendary 3. 6-litre flat-six engine delivers its characteristic punch, working beautifully alongside the sure-footed Carrera 4 four-wheel-drive system. The car offers a wonderful, engaging driving experience, with the air-cooled exhaust note sounding fantastic with the roof down. A visual inspection reveals a car that has been well-maintained over its lifetime, presenting with an honest finish that is ideal for regular use, local events, or long-distance touring.
While the car is accompanied by limited physical paperwork today, it is understood to have been supplied new by the respected Porsche dealer Chariots of Kidlington. The car is also reported to have a history of significant mechanical investment in its more recent past. Information with the car indicates an engine rebuild was undertaken at 111, 900 miles, which reportedly included the replacement of the brake discs and pads at a cost of £8, 000.
Further major maintenance is reported to have taken place at 113, 000 miles. This extensive work reportedly included removing the engine and gearbox to fit a new clutch and flywheel, alongside the replacement of the engine tinware. At the same time, the alternator was reportedly stripped, painted, and rebuilt, and the rocker covers were painted and sealed. To ensure longevity, motorsport-specification rubbers were reportedly fitted to the rocker shafts to prevent oil leaks into the head cooling fins, and a new near-side rear wheel bearing was installed. Whilst the original service book is no longer present to fully verify these entries, the superb way this 964 performs on the road certainly backs up the report of a well-sorted, heavily invested-in air-cooled 911.
