The Background
The Morris Minor was first shown to the public at a motorshow in 1948. Production ran from this time to 1972 with 3 generations being produced in that time.
In 1953 the Traveller was introduced which featured the wooden framed estate section. The Morris Minor was the first British car to sell over 1 million units and some say it typifies what it is to be English.
The current owner purchased this vehicle from a work colleague in 1990. Since then he has maintained the car and it has been regularly serviced and MOT’d. The current MOT running out in November this year.
Now in his twilight years he has decided it’s time to let the car go to someone else to enjoy.
The interior on this Traveller is a time warp back to 1963. The vinyl seats are in good condition apart from a rip in the passenger front seat which will need attention.
The rear seats fold down to make the rear a bigger load space.
The exterior of the car is presentable and has had love and attention throughout its life but it does show some signs of age as to be expected with a 48 year old vehicle. The wings were replaced with new a few short years ago and the chrome work is in decent condition with some pitting here and there.
There are some areas on the wooden rear section that will need attention in the future (pictured) and there are a number of spots of corrosion on the metal work (again Pictured)
The undercarriage has a lot of surface rust but is serviceable as the current MOT shows.
The wheels were rubbed down and painted by the current owner at some point but sadly corrosion has appeared again through the paint so they would benefit from a refurb.
The car still runs what is thought to be the original 1000cc engine. It has been reliable and maintained throughout the current owners tenure and with a healthy battery, starts well.
Its covered 78K miles and there is no knowledge of a rebuild at any point. It sounds raspy through the pea shooter exhaust much like it should.
The Morris Traveller is a sight you just don’t see that often anymore on British roads. It was conceived in a time when life was certainly simpler.
The vehicle is simple by design and it was intended that an owner would have the skills and basic tool kits to do an amount of tinkering on their own driveway if needed.
The wooden frame rear end is the trademark of Morris Traveller and some say its what gives it its very unique character.
This particular car was bought by the current owner some 31 years ago and whilst its pretty much part of the family days tinkering on the driveway are behind him so its time for someone to take up the baton. It will need a bit of love and attention to areas that commonly suffer on 48 year old vehicles but what a great little motor to work on and enjoy.
They definitely don’t make them like they used to and this is a classic that needs to be taken on and enjoyed for years to come.

Automatically outbid immediately

Pre-authorisation
We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.
