The Appeal

Alec Issigonis likely never had race tracks, rally wins or hot Coopers in mind when he penned his iconic city car. Yet such was the brilliance of his design that the Mini excelled across all these arenas.
The Mk2 Cooper was little changed over the original, retaining the zingy 998cc A-Series that was so capable of embarrassing far bigger machines in the right hands. Today these cars are highly revered, many residing in high end collections.
Here we have a car that is much more usable, but still benefits from extensive restoration and maintenance. The attention of its eight owners is carefully recorded in the thick history file.
It was repainted in 2019 in Tartan Red following a lengthy restoration which included rebuilding the engine and gearbox and replacing the clutch. SInce then it has been used sparingly, including several classic car rallies, and has covered just 4,000 miles.
Today it presents in very good condition. It is a car designed to be used and enjoyed, just as John Cooper always intended.
