The Appeal
Superb build quality and clever engineering set the Lancer on the path to rally domination. The gravel-orientated specification found its way into the regular models, including this 1990 GLX Liftback with the AWD system.
These cars were rare when new, which makes any survivor an unusual find. This, however, is the proverbial needle in a haystack - a two owner, 14,000 miles-from-new car in quite remarkable condition.
That is all thanks to the car spending the last 10 years as a showroom display in a Mitsubishi dealership. It hasn’t just stood still though - it has been regularly started and run and maintained by the firm’s own workshop.
The condition is in the category of ‘timewarp’ - it looks like it rolled out of the showroom yesterday. Which, in a way, it did.
The car has been comprehensively maintained and recently inspected by the vendor’s workshop and will be supplied with a fresh 12 months MOT.
This Lancer is anything but ordinary, but with ‘everyday’ classics in high demand right now, it looks like a shoe-in for awards at any of the leading ‘unexceptional’ classic shows.
