THE APPEAL

The Mini is a car that always makes people smile, it characterful face and compact size endearing it to scores of fans around the world.

The original BMC Mini was a true car for the people and its success is measured in the amount of family and friends that have a personal connection to the  plucky little car.

The first Mini Cooper launched in 1961 and was later revived by the Rover Group  in 1990, with the unveiling of the Rover Mini Cooper.

The 1991 example offered by Car and Classic is perhaps one of the finest examples on the market having covered less than 12,000 miles in 31 years.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

• V5C in owners name
• Original Handbook Pack plus Service Book with 16 stamps
• Original dealership order form, invoice and welcome letter from Rover dealer
• Original MOT Certificates and Tax Discs
• Huge File of Invoices from New

This Rover Mini Cooper was ordered on the 30th November 1990 at a cost of £7,310.

It was specified in Flame Red with a White roof and a Black interior. The original order form and invoice from the Rover Lancaster dealership notes that the owner added Nudge Bars and Driving Lamps as dealer fitted extras.

The Mini comes will its original owner book pack and order documents, which is really nice to see and adds to the cars provenance.

Its first MOT was carried out on the 31st March 1994, with the Mini having covered 4,114 miles. On the same date in 1995 its subsequent MOT test showed the mileage at 5,242. And on the 29th March 1996 it had covered 6,074.

It is very clear that this Mini Cooper was cherished from day one and was used very sparingly in its early years.

The Mini Cooper’s current owner acquired the car in 2010 and continued to use it sparingly, stating that its only trips out on the road were for its annual MOT test and back again.

It has remained in storage in his private collection since 2010, which has preserved the car and kept its mileage very low indeed.

THE INTERIOR

• Original interior in virtually unmarked condition
• Original toolkit
• Unused spare tyre in the boot

The interior of the Rover Mini Cooper looks as good as when it left the Rover factory in 1991.

The black seats have no wear, with the dashboard, steering wheel, gear lever and all the switchgear are in excellent condition. The carpets are also in lovely shape and a peak under them reveals shiny red paint on the floor.

The headline is unmarked with no evidence of staining or water marks, which can be common age related flaws on classic Mini’s.

An Aiwa tape player is fitted to the Mini in the radio slot under the dash.

THE EXTERIOR

This Rover Mini Cooper really looks as sharp as a pin, with its bright Flame Red paint set off by the gleaming white roof.

The cars paint is in excellent condition all round with all the factory decals intact and the pinstripe lines matching up very well. The chrome nudge bars, spot lights and brightwork all have a nice shine and the Minilite alloy wheels are in excellent shape.

The whole car looks as fresh as when it rolled off the factory floor. It is genuinely that good!

THE MECHANICS

• 1,275cc MG Metro A-Series engine
• MOT until 10th June 2023

The Rover Mini’s 1.3 litre carb engine fired up on the button and idled very nicely as it was positioned for its photoshoot.

As this is an early MKVI it has the single SU carb fitted to the A-Series engine. The engine bay itself presents very well with everything nicely presented and not overly detailed.

The engine plate and chassis plate are present as are the factory stickers. There is

The underside looks to be in very nice condition all round and has clearly benefited from spending an average of 363.45 miles on the road in 31 years. The Mini’s last documented inspection was carried out at 11,252 miles on the 30th May 2022.

It has covered just 15 miles since.

SUMMARY

This 1991 Rover Mini Cooper was a real pleasure to photograph and its remarkable preservation is a credit to its current owner and its past custodians, who have clearly cherished it over its 31 years.

Finding another MKVI Cooper in this condition with such low miles and ownership is going to be very hard to repeat.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
