1965 Austin Gipsy G4 M15 Pick-Up. Just releasede from a private collection. This Austin has a BMIHT certificate showing build date of 13th April 1965. Bought new by Richard Renfrew of New Farm, Knightcote, Leamington Spa. In service until about 1985 when it was barn stored. Recorded mileage is 30, 000. Acquired by the present owner on 13. 02. 02. The 2199cc petrol engine came from the Austin A70 Hereford car. This Gipsy has the traditional leaf spring suspension. "Flexitor" rubber trailing arm suspension and the "London Taxi" 2178cc diesel engine were options. These vehicles had a strong and durable chassis but the steel bodywork was very prone to rusting. This one was no exception and was fully restored in 2003 where it has remained in a private collection ever since. Production ceased in 1968 with the British Leyland Motor Corporation merger which also encompassed the Rover car company. As Land Rover was a direct competitor and the preferred option the Austin Gipsy was discontinued. This car really is a credit to its former owner and just waiting to be enjoyed in new hands.
