It is time that this car found a new owner who will make better use of it as I haven't driven it regularly.
It was built in 1991/ 92 using many new parts into a plywood tub which is full aluminium cladding in the places that can be seen. The remainder is either painted of varnished. It is white in colour, but some of the panels could do with a refresh as some cracks are appearing in the finish. I have a couple of litres of the original nitro cellulose paint.
It has a hood, which has been little used and reasonable sidescreens along with a pair of wind deflectors. It has a tonneau, which has seen better days through long term use, but is still serviceable.
It has two, little used, Corbeau seats with headrests and Luke full harness belts. The interior is clad with black covered panels and black carpet. It has a comprehensive set of instruments in an aluminium dashboard, along with screen mounted mirrors
Engine
Fitted with 2 Litre Ford Pinto with big valve head and Piper fast road camshaft.
High pressure oil pump. Thermostatic oil cooler. Alloy rocker cover with breather system.
Twin DHLA Dellorto carbs with K&N filters. Facet Electronic fuel pump.
Four branch exhaust manifold leading to rear exiting, mostly stainless, exhaust.
I have the dyno print out from when the carbs were jetted. Around 125bhp.
Gearbox
Four speed with "quickshift" lever, driven through a 2litr clutch and flywheel and a Lotus centre plate.
Brakes
2ltr Cortina brakes on servo, copper pipes and aeroquip flexible hoses.
Properly modified Ford pedals and pedal box. Cable to mechanical linkage for throttle.
Suspension
Cortina front and rear with Powerflex bushes at the rear and on the front tie bars.
Wheels and tyres
Five, as new, alloy 15 inch wheels with correct offset and almost new tyres.
If you are thinking of building a Hornet, then why not buy this one, spend a little money on it and get a first class example for less than the build cost of a lesser version.
This is not an unfinished project. It comes with almost full year MOT. Come and have a look and see what you think. Instead of spending your summer building a car you could be driving around the roads in this good example.
