Here is my 1967 MG Midget with a 1275cc engine, engineered to Mini Cooper spec. More of the details later.
She is in stunning condition and before we go any further, let me say she is red. Yes red. Red as red. Not the dullish shade she looks in my photos taken today. She stayed with her original owner until just nine years ago when she was purchased by an engineer who fully restored her in preparation for being his wife's 50th birthday present. I am told that she liked the Midget well enough but usage was negligible and the car spent most of the next nine years in warm and dry hibernation. Body and paint-wise, she is lovely and she is also excellent underneath. She flew through her MoT in June even though she no longer needs one. It appears that she has covered around 1200 miles since the full restoration.
She was given increased umph thanks to the engine being increased to Cooper spec. Being the earlier Midget she comes with lots of goodies such as lots of chrome all over the body, bigger bumpers, early Midget sports seats and so on. She drives like a dream.
She comes with a hard top (non metal but easy to handle) and a hood frame with hood which is not fitted. If you look at the photos with the hard top in position, you will notice the "gold" wire wheels. They are not. They are chrome wires and as good as new. The golden looking finish is the grease that was smeared on years ago in order to protect them. Look at the photos with the top taken off and you will see that I have put in some elbow grease (pardon the pun!) and removed most of it.
Also, due to new suspension, look at how well she sits. She has new (correct 1967 spec) seats and all sorts of other bits and pieces.

Vehicle put onto a jig and any rot (it was minimal) removed. Most panels remain original.
The engine has been replaced with a 1275cc unit, which has then been worked on, with mini Cooper high compression piston, ported cylinder head with unleaded conversion ie valve seats.
Brand new tyres and wire wheels which are greased hence the golden look in the photos
New discs pads and calipers, new drums and shoes
New clutch.
New radiator.
New suspension and bushes.
New track rod ends.
New stainless steel exhaust.
New seat covers and seat springs.
New carpets,
New door cards.
Some small bits and bobs need sorting such as fuel gauge (not working) Rev counter missing (I can supply one), some interior trim to foot wells and rear tub, one window winder.
All the same, a stunning example.
Remember that these old girls are motoring antiques. Practically every one of them will have been subjected to work at some time in their long lives and they are bound to need more love and attention in the future. Context is all with classic cars. Please do not run your finger over them and compare them to your wife's new Chelsea tractor! On-going work is virtually inevitable with all of them. I do not put them through a garage "test", nor do I drive them for months on end. They come in and they go out. I feel that I have become a "re-homer" of motoring antiques. They leave me with no warranty either given or implied. They are too old for that! You may spot something of which I know nothing. It happens.
