1982 Yamaha RD250 LC // 37021 mls Indicated // 1 Previous Owner // The Classic Revvy 250 Stroker
The RDs were dominating their market in the day, and these 2-strokes have a very passionate following for good reason.
Because they followed the RD400 production line there had to be changes to the motor to fulfil the new emissions regulations, so liquid cooling was added and displacement was reduced. Despite this, the updated range benefited from the years of Yamaha and development experience.
There is not a lot that visually separates the 250 and the 350 models which was great for leaner drivers who were happy to have their 250 look like the bigger capacity model. The 250 got a single disc brake up front, and a claimed 35bhp to the 47bhp of the 350.
All RDs are lookers, and this example is an absolutely stunner. The RD is a bike that likes to be opened up, revved and clicked through its creamy 6-speed gearbox quickly to keep the engine buzzing in it’s snappy power-band.
The RD is a bike that is eager to please, and is great though the corners, with a planted feel. The single disc up front is more than enough for the lightweight 250. Rev the RD through the back roads and it’s obvious why it has such a following. It was loved on release because you got big bike performance out of something so light.
Take it for a spin and that power band will instantly take you back.
