The limited edition «MG Maestro Turbo» was first displayed at Birmingham in October 1988 and launched in early 1989. It was the final car from «Austin Rover Group» as the new «Rover Group» came just a few months later.
It made use of the 2 litre engine, that was already quite an impressive engine, but the combination of one carburettor and a «Garret T3» turbocharger gave it a «little extra», reaching 152hp (113kW).
With a top speed of 128 mph (206 km/ h) and a 0–60 mph time of 6. 7 seconds, the «Maestro Turbo» was faster than the majority of its competitors
«Tickford» designed a special and exclusive five piece bodykit, that combined with the «BBS» style alloys brought to «Maestro Turbo» a more aggressive and distinct look.
The cars were assembled with other Maestros at Cowley facility before being shipped to Tickfords Bedworth plant for application of the bodykit and graphics.
The Maestro Turbo was the fastest production MG to date.
500 «Maestro Turbo» were commissioned, although Tickford records indicate five hundred and five (including the 1988 Motorshow car and 4 other press cars) passed through their facility. This was made up of 215 red, 149 green, 92 white and 49 black cars.
Although regarded early on as a future classic there are probably less than half still in existence.
Here for sale is «Maestro Turbo» nº214, in original condition with the exception of the air filter, stereo and boost gauge. It has only 45. 500 miles on the clock. Complete with owners manuals, MOT history, service invoices, two keys, «MG M Group» certificate of authenticity and some period magazines featuring the «Maestro Turbo».
