Description
The car offered here is a Ford GRANADA Mk. 1 – PERANA V8 (Car number BG0608) C4-Auto RHD; this is a matching numbers example. Effectively brand new inasmuch as it was subject to a total ground-up restoration, and this included a fully restored body and interior - notably the original car was already in well above average condition, the owner simply wanted his cars to be prime examples.
The PERANA CARS (built by Basil Green) were fully sanctioned by FORD South Africa, and involved being delivered a SVO Capri Mk. 1’s (500 built before SA production stopped) and the GRANADA Mk. 1 (488 built before the Mk. 2 was introduced – only 18 examples of the Mk. 2 were built) and then installing a tuned version of the FORD MUSTANG COBRA 302 / V8.
In fact so spectacular was this version of the GRANADA that a gift of one was made to Lee IOCOCCA; the then CEO of Ford of Europe, and he used it as his personal car for several years. It is rumoured that at one stage this version of the GRANADA nearly made it into Ford UK & GERMAN plant production – but the fuel crisis put paid to that idea, yet the fuel consumption was only slightly more than a Essex 3. 0 V6 derivative.
This car represents a unique and very unusual collaboration between FORD Motor Company and a third-party Specialist Performance Car Builder; PERANA CARS. There are very few surviving examples, and certainly since I sold the last decent top condition example to a Norwegian buyer back in 2008 this is the only one worth having; i. e. not requiring a total restoration due to poor condition, that I’ve been able to find – even near scrapyard rusted wrecks as almost impossible to find nowadays.
The irony to the more famous CAPRI versions, is that the GRANADA was far superior due to the IRS and Disc Brakes to all wheels – apart from being an equally fast car – just far better handling and far superior braking to the disc & drum braking based Capri’s…. try running a Capri PERANA hard and believe me you will be scared when the brakes simply don’t want to play anymore.
The owner has closed his personal restoration workshop (including its own paint spray-booth and oven) and the staff has been laid-off due to his retirement after selling the farm that the facility was located at. The workshop was cost justified on the basis of having restored over 30 prime examples of performance FORD Cortina, Escort, and this car; a totally unique Granada PERANA V8 from the three decades of 1960's to 1980's inclusive.
The car was fitted with every single new component as required, and is now almost ready for shipment – she needs her interior electrics completed plus a full commissioning service and tune-up which will be done by a specialist Ford restoration workshop near Cape Town. She will be undergo a comprehensive VALET after that work is concluded.
This example came off the production line in South Africa in a her present but repainted original metallic Bronze colour with a beautifully complimented interior courtesy of ALDRIDGES UK for the re-upholstery and new carpeting, etc. The rest of the specification is GXL specification as very few GHIA derivatives were used by Basil Green. Suffice to say that every single aspect of this restored car was completed to the very highest level of attention to detail and it cannot be faulted. Comprehensive photo-images of the under-body will be taken before the car is rust-guard sealed or if you prefer we can leave it in the standard painted state.
The price of GBP31, 000 includes all costs to complete as stated, transport, insure & container ship to the UK and fully imported. It will then have a fresh MoT, DVLA Registration, and UK Number Plates – you just have to properly insure your precious investment and collect her from Bury St. Edmunds.
Kindly call me; Peter Jackson, directly on UK number the details below - international +44-the details below - to discuss the car further; or email me, but please include your name and contact number – thank you.
Several other equally spectacular restored sporting Ford of Europe cars from the same collection are also being advertised on this site – all of which offer the opportunity to buy the very best examples available in South Africa today and unlikely to be repeated.
