A very rare opportunity to join the ranks of he aero-engined Edwardian clan. Perhaps the prettiest Edwardian aero-engined specials, the 1914/ 18 Fafnir Hall-Scott special was built by Oliver Way from a Fafnir chassis recovered from New Zealand, and incorporates a 1917 10-litre Hall-Scott A7A aero engine coupled to an unknown gearbox and a ‘special’ axle. It is geared to do 100mph at its redline of 1800rpm.
Its aluminium bodywork is an homage to the 1921 Fafnir team Cars, which featured distinctive ‘faces’ on their radiator cowls and the clown’s hat radiator cap. This team was Caracciola’s first works drive in 1921. It is a well-known and active Class 12 VSCC hill-climb and circuit car, for example Prescott 52. 5, Chateau Impney 55. 02, Shelsley Walsh 49. 76, Mallory 1’12, Goodwood 2’07. It has been invited to the Goodwood Members Meeting (S. F. Edge Trophy) in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
Over the time I have owned it I have continuously improved it, and the car is ready to provide a lot of fun to its next owner. Recent magneto overhauls and steering geometry improvements. Building a competitive Edwardian special from scratch would cost considerably more!
It’s the only car I’ve owned that gets a round of applause from onlookers when you switch it off.
The car is ready to race, has a VSCC buff form and is registered for road use in the UK. It comes with Marchal headlights (currently removed), four cycle wings (never fitted), stub and full exhaust systems and a fitted outdoor cover.
