Description
1947 AERMACCHI MB1
The Aermacchi company was founded in Italy in 1912 by Giulio Macchi who produced aeroplanes and, famously, Seaplanes. To boost factory manufacturing after WW2, production started on the MB1, a three wheel truck. The MB1 was produced from 1945 until 1954 and designed by engineer, Emilio Bazzochi, hence the MB title standing for Macchi?Bazzochi.
This little truck was sold new in Belgium in 1947, in 1949 was impounded by the Dutch authorities having been used for smuggling cigarettes and butter across the Dutch border. Impounded for twenty?five years without being claimed, the Dutch authorities sold the MB1 to a collector in Holland at auction in 1974. It was then dry stored until being re-discovered in 2015. This is the earliest known MB1 still in existence and is in true time?warp condition.
