A very reluctant sale, and your chance to own an amazing beetle.
I imported this matching numbers Volkswagen from Malta nearly 10 years ago with only 53000 miles on the clock. I've since covered just under 4000 miles of completely trouble free, enjoyable motoring! The car has never let me down, and will always start, even after some long periods of inactivity.
A little on the history...
The car was owned by a local Maltese man (Mr C Bugeja) from new until early 2010, he then sold the car onto a British expat whom I bought it from in the early summer of 2010. So it was practically a 1 owner car before I bought it.
According to the guy who sold it to me, Mr Bugeja used to have Volkswagen come out to his house to service the car so he could keep an eye on them!
Unfortunately the original service book was lost at some point in the early 80s. However, Mr Bugeja had the service book replaced by Volkswagen in 1984. I have the original letter from Volkswagen regarding this replacement, he'd requested the records for previous services, but as stated in the letter, they were no longer available.
The replaced book has the following services recorded
30/ 05/ 84 (NOTE FOR LAST SERVICE FROM LOST BOOK)
22/ 08/ 85 (31506 miles)
30/ 07/ 88 (38197 miles) - has a squiggle over the miles recorded so guess the got it wrong..)
28/ 05/ 89 (38050 miles)
26/ 04/ 92 (42573 miles)
NO DATE NOTED (44377 miles)
10/ 02/ 96 (46913 miles)
20/ 01/ 98 (48730 miles)
There are no more records after that, so it looks like the car only covered 4000 odd miles or so in the next 10 years.
Along with other bits and pieces of paperwork, I have an original letter from Mr Bugeja (March 2010) stating how sorry he was to see 'his baby' go, along with a copy of the original purchase receipt.
When I bought the car the seats and door covers still had plastic coverings (I can only assume from new, judging by the state of them!). I painstakingly removed these to reveal the original seats in stunning condition, as you can see from the photos, and as you would expect from such a low mileage car.
To do the car justice, the headlining and carpet were re-trimmed by Bernard Newbury before he retired. The interior is stunning.
The car sits on dropped spindles, original 60s Porsche 356 wheels, Firestone 165s on the rear and Firestone 145s on the front. I've installed a Nardi steering wheel to complete the look.
The car can easily be returned to stock, I have the original front link pins etc, steering wheel and the original smooth wheels.
The engine is totally stock, super smooth, quiet and reliable.
The bodywork is solid, and the car has been garaged under my ownership.
The car was MOT'd in January with no advisories.
I will be very sorry to see the car go, it deserves a new owner as caring as the last 2.
No time wasters please, this one deserves better.
