Priced at £4, 250
Mileage is 86, 247 though this will go up a bit, as I am using it from time to time.
I had the cambelt, tensioner, water pump and auxiliary belt changed by well-respected Citroën specialist, Mark Lightfoot, at 81, 334 miles.
The last service, again by Mark Lightfoot, was done less than 1, 000 miles ago.
All tyres have over 5mm of tread
I’m only selling it now because I’ve managed to acquire another C6, one of the lowest mileage 2. 2 cars left in the UK, and much as I might like to, I can’t justify having an everyday and a Sunday best example.
Contacting me by email is likely to be the most reliable approach. If you let me have your number, I can call at a time that suits you.
So why have I described it as the thinking person's C6 ?
The vast majority of C6s are 2. 7 litre V6 diesels. Only around 10% of the total production used 4 cylinder engines.
Back when a new C6 cost somewhere between £30 and £40K, I guess a V6 was essential to compete in that market. However, things are different now. Three quarters of all C6s were built before 2008, so they’re fast approaching automotive middle-age.
These days, the “ownership experience” of a C6 is more focused on reliability and ease / cost of maintenance, and that’s where the 4 cylinder cars have a big advantage.
First of all, the road tax on a 2. 7 is £540 per year, compared to £230 for this car, and 4 cylinder returns about 10 more mpg.
Secondly, the 2. 2 engine has proved to be more reliable and much cheaper to maintain than the V6. Similarly, the suspension on 4 cylinder models still gives the wonderful ride associated with Citroen’s hydropneumatics, but manages it without as much electronic intervention as the V6. In fact, it’s much closer to that of the contemporary C5, which means parts are cheaper, more readily available and less likely to be deleted from supply by Citroën.
Just to put one more thing to rest, the 2. 2 has more than enough power. Although maximum output is 170 hp compared to 204 for the V6, peak torque is achieved at lower revs, and spared the losses of the automatic gearbox, practical on-road performance is never lacking.
In summary then, for most, the 2. 2 is the best option.
