Description
We are delighted to offer this incredibly rare original RHD, low mileage De Tomaso Pantera GTS onto the market. Research tells us in late 2018 just 44 (mainly LHD cars) were on the road in the UK, 20 on SORN and very few original RHD cars were ever built making this an incredibly sought-after vehicle. This example has covered just 33, 000 miles from new and from sale documentation in 2009 we are told this was the De Tomaso used for the Earls Court Motor Show in 1973. This very special car was registered TGX 37M on the 6th November 1973, had one owner for 29 years and has had just three owners from new, all in the UK. The car has been subject of major refurbishment over the past 12 months and with the £80, 000 of work coming close to completion, we are offering the car onto the market.
Fitted with the 350BHP Cleveland Ford 5. 7 V8 engine and five speed ZF gearbox, the Pantera is a very correct car accompanied by an extensive history file with MOT certificates dating back to 1986 when the mileage was 19195. The first registered owner was W & J Barrs Ltd, Building Contractors in North London and the car was transferred from the Company to Mr Barrs himself in 1992. Mr Barrs owned the vehicle for 29 years, selling the De Tomaso in 2002 to the second owner. The most recent, and third owner bought the car in 2009 with 26, 600 miles. On purchasing the car eleven years ago, in the region of £15, 000 was spent on the car, in 2016 a further £6, 000 of expenditure went into maintenance and the car arrived with us having now covered 33, 000 miles.
Prior to arriving with us, the car spent eighteen months garaged so it was ready for a program of re-commissioning work. The engine was removed from the car, the bodyshell was then stripped down to a bare rolling shell and put through our bodyshop Malton Coachworks. The original body was in strong condition, with very original looking faded paintwork. The shell was fully prepared and treated to a top class re-paint. The engine was completely stripped down and treated to a full rebuild to include upgrade to stroker kit, main and big end bearings, new crankshaft, new rods, new pistons, re-bored, full overhaul of cylinder heads with bigger valves, new carburettor, balanced flywheel and new clutch. General mechanical re-commissioning includes full overhaul of braking system including calipers, radiator and cooling system overhauled. Wheels have been re-furbished a brand-new set of tyres fitted. We are now carrying out final tuning, and to complete the car, we will be carrying out a full re-trim and detailing. There is an option to buy the car with the original trim in place, we are happy to discuss detail of the final work going into the car. This is a spectacular car, an example with huge provenance and is incredibly rare in RHD format. This is a true collector's piece, an almost unrepeatable opportunity and now the car is almost ready, we welcome interest giving the option to reserve the car ahead of completion.
