This extremely rare Passat R36 Estate has covered just 32, 707 miles from new in the hands of just two owners and is in correspondingly superb condition throughout.
The Passat R36 was something of an anomaly in the volume-driven world of sensible, practical everyday mass-market cars like, well like the VW Passat. The subtle bodykit and larger diameter wheels hardly screamed performance car in a world where even the more prosaic TDi often comes equipped with wheels big enough that would shame a BTCC car from a few years ago. But that was the whole point and appeal of the R36 – here was a totally inconspicuous, under the radar and eminently practical family car that was a real performance machine under the skin.
The 3. 6-litre narrow-angle V6 makes 295bhp and drives all four wheels via the standard fit six-speed DSG and Haldex part-time drive, resulting in just 5. 8 seconds to 62mph (in estate form) and all the way to a limited 155mph.
The R36 was available as a saloon or estate, but it’s the estate that’s the really desirable one as it gives the perfect mix of practicality and performance.
This example is the estate, first registered in November 2008 by Volkswagen of Kurashiki, Japan. Finished in Reflex Silver metallic with black leather/ alcantara.
As the top of the range model it is comprehensively equipped with climate control, electric/ heated Recaro seats (driver’s with memory), folding mirrors, cruise control, electrically adjustable suspension, xenon headlamps and much more.
Since coming to the UK at the beginning of 2020, the original Japanese navigation/ radio unit has been replaced with a Dynavin N7 – an ultra high quality that is completely factory in appearance yet brings the car bang up to date in terms of infotainment with DAB Digital Radio, Bluetooth phone and music streaming, navigation both built in and with WAZE/ Apple Maps, full Apple Play and Android Auto screen mirroring, also the factory parking sensors and reverse camera all function correctly with this unit, as does the multi function steering wheel.
This car had one owner from new in Japan until 2019 and one UK owner.
All original books/ manuals come with the car along with full service history (NB Long Life service schedule) as follows - 1, 995 miles 19/ 10/ 2009 8, 473 miles 24/ 01/ 2011 14, 448 miles 25/ 01/ 2013 25, 950 miles 08/ 12/ 2017 32, 000 miles 10/ 02/ 2019 The last service (less than 750 miles ago) included coolant replacement, a brake fluid change and the all important Haldex oil change.
As you might expect with such a low mileage this Passat is in superb, original condition throughout. The wheels are perfect and wear matching Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
A fantastic car to drive that manages to be both compliant and comfortable but also extremely fast and sure-footed. It drives, quite simply, like new.
