Morris 8 Series 1 Four-door Saloon Sliding Head

First registered: 1936
VIN Chassis Number: S1E118567

This four-door Morris 8 is a charming example of this little car. It comes with a Heritage Certificate and a binder full of receipts and paperwork and old MOTs.

This is an older restoration which still presents excellently today. The wheels have recently been sand-blasted and powder-coated and set the coachwork off beautifully. The unmarked blue and black paintwork, together with the gold coachline, really do complement each other and give the car a majestic appearance. Incredibly, the Morris 8 was marketed as an affordable four-door family saloon, but as the photos show, it’s a quite charming and elegant vehicle for the enthusiast all these years later.

The four-cylinder sidevalve 918cc engine runs beautifully, and the 3-speed synchromesh gearbox performs equally well. Amongst the car’s features are a fold-out front window, Lockheed hydraulic braking, and the slide-back “sunshine roof”, much coveted in its day. To quote Wikipedia on the car’s good points: Compared with the similarly priced Austin 7, the Morris Eight was well equipped. The driver was provided with a full set of instruments including a speedometer with a built in odometer, oil pressure and fuel level gauges and an ammeter. The more modern design of the Morris was reflected in the superior performance of its hydraulically operated 8-inch drum brakes. The Morris also scored over its Ford rival by incorporating an electric windscreen wiper rather than the more old-fashioned vacuum powered equivalent, while its relatively wide 45 inch track aided directional stability on corners.

All in all, an exquisite and very enjoyable 1930s classic, and one whose rarity makes it a great investment for the future.

The car is now ready for viewing, so if you would like to arrange an appointment to view or book a test drive please get in touch at Craner Classic Cars, The Gate House, Nottingham.
