For those requiring something ‘unique’ in life … Country Classic Cars in Midhurst have been requested to source a new custodian for this fantastic BMW K1 combination with matching Charnwood sports sidecar registered March 1993. The BMW K1 appeared in 1988 and brought to market the first motorcycle with ABS brakes and controlled cat convertor. With a world beating drag coefficient of 0. 34 and 100bhp it proved an instant success offering 74 ft lbs torque @ 6750rpm from a reliable 987cc in line four with 16 valves. Renowned for its reliability and long-distance touring capabilities the ‘top of the range’ K1 proved an ideal candidate for a sidecar and several manufacturers supplied ‘chairs’ including Jim Charnwood from his shop in Leicestershire. Performance is a given and its five-speed gearbox will finally run out of revs at 150mph although things are often more sedate with a side car combination.
This example is one of the very last of the 6921 built to leave the factory in 1993 and will be supplied with every MOT certificate to confirm the mileage at 67k miles; these engines are known for longevity with many owners exceeding 250k with ease. Everything operates correctly and the drivetrain pulls smoothly in all gears, the tyres are recent with plenty of tread whilst the current MOT goes to July 2021. The blue finish compliments the silver rims with extras that include deluxe seat, additional screen and touring luggage.
