This is my Yamaha R1Z - a naked two-stroke high performance twin based on the faired TZR 'Race-Replica', and specially designed for the Japanese home market.
Engine is straight out of the TZR250: an advanced reed & power-valve 250cc parallel twin revving to 11, 000rpm. Frame features a steel trellis rather than aluminium box-section, but it's very light/ rigid and combined with close to 50bhp from the short stroke motor makes for what is probably the quickest 250cc naked on the road.
Bike was overhauled this year with most consumables replaced; new tires, clutch plates, side-cover screws and gaskets, plugs, plug leads, battery, chain, gearbox oil, coolant system drained and flushed, lower radiator hose, main fuel pipe etc. Stands me in at over £4, 000.
Engine starts easily (on choke) and pulls cleanly all the way from idle to the 11, 000rpm red line. Runs nice and cool. All electrics work as they should with daytime riding lights as per Japanese regulations. All-important, original crossover expansion chambers with 'carbon' end cans are in good condition and sound fantastic on the open road while not being over loud for urban use.
Two new keys (& original), new MoT until 06-10-2021. Original low clip-on bars replaced with solid alloy risers and one-piece alloy handlebar for added comfort.
Cosmetically the bike is in generally good condition with almost no corrosion and just the odd small age/ use-related mark (e. g. minor scrape to right-hand cover); petrol tank is clean inside with no rust, leaks or damage to the paintwork.
All in all a classic Yamaha 'Stroker' for less money than an ordinary LC. Need the space for other bikes.
