THE Austin and Morris 1300GT, launched in 1969, proved to be an instant hit with its styling, sporting looks and 70bhp engine lifted from the MG 1300 which in turn had been lifted from the Mini Cooper S.

Very few have survived and even fewer tend to be offered for sale. Sometimes there may be a handful on the market but they will be anywhere between 10 and 15k and usually will have had plenty of owners as well plenty of miles on the clock.

This "garage find", released from hibernation after 27 years, was purchased at new by a family in Gloucestershire (original bill of sale included in the history file) and remained in the same family until finding its way to me recently!

It has covered a genuine 22, 000 miles having been on the road for 22 years between 1971 and 1993. There's all sorts of goodies in the file and some nice touches with the car itself. For example, the brown paper label dating back to delivery still hangs beneath the dashboard. A similar one was fastened to the steering wheel. The supplying dealer's sticker is still on the rear window.

The car itself is in amazing condition (do not expect concours, but rather the condition of a survivor). The "finder" of the car told me that there were some surface bits here and there and that the vinyl roof had suffered during storage. Simply for the satisfaction of tidying up this remarkable find, he cleaned the roof and painted it in black satin. It looks well. Likewise, he went around the bodywork, rubbing down small bits of surface rust and touching in white paint. The underside and sub frames look to be fine and also where some of the original underseal (mentioned in the original bill of sale for £1150. 25) is peeling off, you can see the white body colour beneath. She starts and moves through the gears although there is currently no footbrake. There is a blow to the exhaust.

The interior is simply amazing in terms of the seats and GT dashboard. Carpets are faded and there is a small hole to the driver's side floor pan just inside the door. The rest looks to be good.

This 1300GT represents a unique find in my opinion and will make someone a belting iconic example with a little fettling here and there.

Please remember that, storage apart, this old girl is coming up 50-years-old. It is un-restored and has covered just 22, 000 miles. Unique as it may be, do not make the mistake of comparing it to a classic where the owner proudly tells you that he has spent 12k on it and now it's mint. It's a survivor and cars are only original once. It's an amazing opportunity and I trust that the next owner will both understand and appreciate that.

I can assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin. the details below
