A fabulous Pagoda in lovely, remarkably original order that has remained in the hands of a local family for most of its life. It remains faithful to its original specification in all respects with silver Metallic paintwork, black mohair soft top, contrasting Pewter hardtop and hubcaps and an original untouched grey leather interior exhibiting great patina. Factory options include power steering, automatic transmission and the still functioning Becker Mexico radio and Hirschmann electric aerial.
A metal plaque was presented to the first owner of these Mercedes models when new, but it is very rare to find a Pagoda that still has this, our car does and thus we know that this 230SL was supplied when new to a Mr G Butler of Sutton Coldfield by his local dealer Cutlers of Streetly, also in Sutton Coldfield. The original service book, also with the car shows that Mr Butler maintained it diligently, stamps showing that he returned it to the supplying dealer for servicing as per schedule to 1978 at which point 52, 486 miles had been covered.
In 1981 the Pagoda passed hands to the Chambers family based in nearby Chipping Campden who retained it until our recent purchase. During their ownership it has received limited, fair weather use, the mileage rising to just 77, 000 miles in this period. When not in use the car has been carefully stored in a dry heated environment and has always been very well maintained as detailed in a maintenance log from RLCR Motor Engineers. In 1999 they carried out extensive renovation work to the car as detailed in many invoices.
Today this 230SL is exactly as one would want a Pagoda to be. It remains in very good order throughout, the restoration now 20 years old was clearly done to a high standard and has now settled giving the car a pleasingly original feel helped by the totally original interior. It drives beautifully as only a well sorted original car can.
It comes with all books including stamped original service book, original Becker radio manual and guarantee and stamped metal factory plate, all keys, tools and the above-mentioned history file of invoicing and MOT certificates.
