With it being one of only 557 E320 Convertibles officially imported to the UK this is a rare car, when new the car cost in excess of £47, 500 which adjusted for inflation amounts to £93, 000 today.
An elegant and beautifully made motor car that imbues all the hallmarks of the term ‘Modern Classic’. This car still retains that ‘hewn from granite’ W124 feel, the doors shut with a satisfying ‘thunk’ there are no untoward noises when on the move and it still rides as nimbly around town or purposefully on the motorway exactly as Mercedes intended and so it should as it was manufactured from a time when Mercedes Benz was still being lead by it’s engineers and not the accountants.
Exterior
Presents very well indeed, The paintwork is deep and still holds lustre and the original Azurite blue comes alive on a bright sunny day, there are a few minor marks and a couple of small blemishes which are commensurate with the age of the vehicle but nothing that detracts from the overall look of the car or would trouble a good paint correction specialist in an afternoons work.
Interior
In true W124 style is in fine fettle, the condition fit and finish belies the age of the vehicle. Undoubtedly one of the high-water marks of Mercedes build and design it retains that immediate sense and feel of quality with everything laid out simply and effectively to hand. All the buttons knobs and gauges do what they are told, the inlaid wood perfect and the choice of interior colour balances well with the exterior blue. The leather on the front seats would benefit from a dose of reviver but there are no unsightly scuffs, marks or tears.
Convertible Hood
In excellent condition outside and in, fully functioning heated glass rear screen with no leaks or tears and opens and closes automatically at the touch of the button.
Engine and Gearbox
Nothing untoward here, the engines starts on the flick of the key, rises quickly to operating temperature, pulls eagerly and the stronger 4 speed gearbox shifts smoothly.
Suspension Wheels & Tyres
Font suspension and brakes recently renewed, the factory sportline alloy wheels are in excellent refurbished condition and are shod with a matching set of quality Continental tyres.
This car was optioned with the rare factory ‘sportline’ suspension package which included upgrade wider wheels, lower profile tyres, quick ratio steering rack, slightly lowered ride height, smaller diameter steering wheel and stiffer springs.
