1949 MG TC
The MG TC will always be fondly remembered as the last of the true ‘pre-war’ styled MGs and also as the model that America took to its heart, as a large proportion of the 10, 000 produced were to head over the Atlantic.
Whilst not entirely original, this 1949 example is definitely a car for the enthusiast who really enjoys a car with modifications to enhance its performance. A sports car, by its very nature, will often be modified with various events, or just increased power in mind.
The MG was the subject of a full restoration 13 years ago, with a new body tub by Hutson and new interior trim by specialists Brown & Gammons.
The engine was rebuilt and bored to 1350cc and the cylinder head converted to take larger valves and ported and skimmed to give a compression ratio of approximately 9:1. A ‘Crane’ fast road camshaft and lightened flywheel, along with 1. 5” SU carbs and the engine being fully balanced make for a very brisk performance. A 7. 5” diaphragm clutch, Ford ‘Type 9’ 5 speed gearbox and 5. 3:1 rear axle ratio all make for a most impressive specification and the steering benefits from a VW steering box and Panhard rod.
The car is offered with the original front wings, running boards, gearbox and bench seat.
An MG TC with a difference which should prove a great deal of fun and ideal for someone wanting to participate in sprints or hill climbs.
Included in the file of paperwork is a specification sheet and a copy of a magazine feature on this car. There is also an original MG TC Instruction Manual supplied.
