Description
The series 3 XJ cars were produced from 1979 until 1992 with exterior styling by Pinninfarina. Over 132, 000 were built making the model a great success for Jaguar and the V12 models remained in production for a full five years after the arrival of the XJ40. In 1984, the model range was simplified, the “Vanden Plas” model was dropped and the V12 versions were available as either “Daimler Double-six” or “Jaguar Sovereign HE”.
This car is a 1985 Jaguar in Claret with Doeskin leather interior. The mileage is correct at just 80k and it has been in private ownership for the last 25 years. There is a comprehensive service history for the early part of its life but more recently it has been dry stored and used very occasionally. We have just carried out some re-commissioning, fitted four new matching radial tyres, a new battery and overhauled the fuel system including fitting a new electric fuel valve and tank sender and fitted a new rear gearbox mounting, a common problem on the V12 models.
In the 90’s, this Jaguar was treated to a bare metal repaint and it remains in outstanding condition today with a rust free body and beautiful paint finish. It also runs and drives beautifully - it is perhaps the best and smoothest driving Series 3 we have been in.
Prices are rising these outstanding saloons but they are still something of a bargain although it's false economy to buy a rotten or poorly restored car. This one is excellent.
Fitted with an optional electric sunroof and comes with spare keys and all original books and manuals.
Ready to use with MOT until May 2022.
