Two years after the unveiling of the Aston Martin Virage Volante, the company pushed the envelope one step further by offering its customers the option of a 6. 3-liter engine, available for both the Virage coupe and Volante. The first customers found themselves sending their brand-new cars to Aston Martin Works Service to have new, wider bodywork fitted; this included enlarged wheel arches, bigger air dam, and revised sill covers. Later, the factory itself would produce the wider bodies during production, which offered customers a chance to retain their original 5. 3-liter engine but modify the body of their Virage to appear as the 6. 3. Aston Martin Virage Volante Cosmetic 6. 3; Finished in Cumberland Grey metallic with piped parchment leather interior and black mohair hood, with an automatic gearbox. This Aston also features a matching hood cover, upgraded multi-CD stereo system and alarm/ immobiliser, and is offered with, original logbook recording AML as first owner, stamped service booklet. The accompanying full-service history includes bills, indicating a ‘no expense spared approach to the car’s care and maintenance. Aston Martin themselves, built chassis number ‘60160’ to ‘cosmetic wide body’ specification and using the car as a works demonstrator, in which role it carried the famous company registration mark, ‘1 AML’.
