SUMMARY
Supplied new by Monarch Mercedes, Tamworth, on 21st 1991 (I think that's the best year for Mercedes, when quality was at its absolute pinnacle), this W201 190E 2. 0 Auto is still in incredible condition. Although the car has had five previous owners, which isn't really that many anyway for a vehicle of almost 30 years, the first real owner only (the first was the supplying Mercedes dealer) kept it just over a year, however second owner kept it for over 22 years. There's a letter from him in the service history folder in which he explains he would have never sold the car had his circumstances been different, and asks any future owners to look after what was his pride and joy for many years. It's crystal clear that this 190E has been a highly cherished vehicle.
Finished in what I think is probably one of the best colours for the W201, the vehicle is in absolutely immaculate condition. The paintwork is beautiful and has a deep even shine, while the underside is among the very best I've ever seen, in fact its still blue under there. I've given the underside a coating of Dynax UC, which is a clear anti-corrosion wax treatment, that dries to a translucent finish, so that look, now protected, is still retained. Judging by the bright orange colour of the dial needles, the car has obviously been garaged much of its life, as these tend to fade to yellow if the car is left outside.
All original books, manuals etc, warning triangle, jack, tools, and unused First Aid kit in the rear shelf are also all present and correct. The service history itself comprises of 20 stamps, and there's also a separate large A4 file containing lots of supporting paperwork, as well as every single old MOT certificate As you'd expect of a vehicle maintained to this level, it's is mechanically superb, and a real pleasure to drive too, and like any Mercedes of this era, has that "carved from granite" feel about it; a feeling no other car can give.
As I've been saying for quite some time now, good W201 190 are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially since interest in the model range has been bolstered recently by what has been written in the motoring and general press, extolling their virtue as arguably one of the best engineered vehicle ever made; that's some accolade, but one that is entirely deserved in my opinion; I certainly can't think of a more completely engineered car . I'm sure in the not so distant future we'll look back and wish we'd got one, while we still could.
In summary, a beautiful, incredibly well preserved and extremely well maintained example in undoubtedly one of the best colours for the W201, and one that really belies its 29 years. A viewing and a test drive will almost certainly impress any discerning potential purchaser.
MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES
MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too.
MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
