Description

1999/ T 1. 6 Corolla SR (4AFE engine) with MOT until 16 October 2021. 118, 000 miles. In regular use. Mechanically good. No warning lights on dash - and as this model has OBDII diagnostics, you'd be welcome to scan it to check yourself! Drives really nicely.

Body needs work. Rusty rear arches. Very badly repaired rust spot on bonnet. Glove box has been cut about a bit inside and some scratches on dash. A couple of stone chips on windscreen (not an MOT issue). Bolts fitted through tailgate skin. Worthy candidate for a light / rolling restoration - these are really rare and should not be confused with the awful OAP-spec versions you see knocking around occasionally. The SR is similar to the G6 version (though by my reckoning the SR is the rarer of the two now..).

4AFE engine and 5-speed gearbox. Recent clutch. Recent front discs and pads. Rear drum brakes have had new brake shoes and fitting kit in the last year. Tow bar fitted but electrics not tested.

Fitted with the following parts from a later facelifted E11 SR: genuine Toyota 14" 6J alloy wheels with really good tyres; mudflaps; strut brace; rear seat headrests (originals lost...); genuine Toyota spacesaver wheel with tyre (unused).

Factory fitted electric sunroof, air conditioning and remote central locking. Sunroof, a/ c and central locking all work. Oil pressure gauge and alternator output meter fitted. Recent power steering fluid change and pump belt replacement. Bosch wipers all round.

I have just serviced the car (a couple of weeks ago): fully-synthetic 5w/ 30 oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, pollen filter.

Car will come with a Haynes manual, a box of miscellaneous service parts (air filters and fuel filters) and an assortment of small spares (including a rear wiper motor and various badges). Also included are two each of new Gates PAS, a/ c and alternator belts.

The car starts and drives really well. I had plans to restore this car myself but I've realised I don't have the talent, time or space to do it justice. I can't bear the thought of this car going to waste so would love for an enthusiast to buy it....

I know the history of this car from new - read on if you are interested....

This car was bought new by the parents of a work colleague of mine. After several years, the car was passed on to their son who spent several more years using this as his daily driver. I bought it in 2013 after he upgraded to a 3. 2 litre V6 Golf.... When I got this car it was a 'one family owned' car with a full service history and file full of receipts. The car had at least two cambelt changes before I bought it. I ran it as a daily until 2018, during which time it had regular servicing. a new clutch and a new exhaust from the mid-section back. It was the most reliable car I'd ever owned. Unfortunately I'd not paid enough attention to the underside of the car during my ownership - the car failed it's MOT in 2018 with a fair amount of chassis corrosion needed fixing. My circumstances at the time meant I couldn't afford to get the work done, so I gave the car to the mechanic to be broken for parts in lieu of the MOT tester's fee. I threw away all of the history I had for the car on the basis of it being scrapped. I'm sure that sounds very dubious but I'd welcome any inspection of the car - I am sure you'd be convinced the car had been looked after.

The mechanic ultimately couldn't bring himself to break the car, so set about repairing the car in his own time. As I couldn't afford the considerable amount of time he spent on it, I was happy for him to have the car for himself as it was saved from being broken up. A month later, the car was roadworthy again. The car went on to complete a charity rally from Staffordshire to Monte Carlo (and back!). After the rally, the car didn't do many miles.

A deal was made with the same mechanic and I bought the car back in 2020. I intended to restore it, and assumed it'd be a bit of mess. However, the car had been treated very well and was driving better than ever. It had been fully serviced (all fluids fresh and clean). It had rally stickers on which I spent a good while removing. There is still sticker residue in places which I am sure would polish off or be removed using a solvent cleaner of some sort. I removed CB radio fittings and a light bar mounted to the lower front bumper (evidence of these can be seen in photos). I did however keep the oil pressure gauge and alternator output meter which are useful little gadgets and a nice reminder of the car's history.

I've put a couple of thousand miles on the car, including driving to work which is 70 mile round trip.

Thanks for reading this far!

I have some extra wheels that can be bought separately or a deal made:

Set of 4 original 14" Wolfrace alloy wheels (factory fitted), missing centre caps unfortunately. Two wheels are fitted with unused winter tyres, the other two have some budget regular tyres but with decent tread.

Two unbranded 14" alloy wheels with budget regular tyres.
