HERE is my Austin A40 Devon pick-up, such a rare sight that perhaps some of you classic car nuts reading this have maybe never even come across one before!
It is difficult to believe that this amazing old girl has not been restored at some time, although I don't have the answer to that. This is just how she arrived at my door.
In super order all round, this cute classic commercial would grace any show ground. She is all metal (including the period sun visor) and drives admirably. She looks to be really good underneath and even her cab area is extremely clean and tidy!
Classic commercials are very much in vogue these days and what a change this makes from the likes of the Morris Minor and Austin A55 vans and pick-ups.
It's that "giant pedal car" front end that does it for me with a Devon. And of course the reason for that is that the Austin Devon saloon was actually the original model for the famous Austin J40 pedal car. Just great looks!
Her load bay is mega solid and straight. In fact the entire vehicle is. A chance not to be missed.
Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such. This old girl for example is now 67-years-old.
