Ford Cortina Mk1 GT (Airflow) – Stunning Example
The management team at Ford quickly realised that the Lotus Cortina Mk1 was going to dominate the sports saloon market for a number of years, but the Cheshunt built twin cam was too expensive and a little extreme for your average family driver.
Undeterred, the suits at Dagenham launched the 1500GT that had been breathed on by the engineers at Cosworth. The compression ratio was raised along with a more aggressive camshaft, larger valves, alloy inlet manifold with twin choke Weber carb and four branch exhaust – the final result increased power by 20bhp and was well received by press and public alike.
Here at Milestones, we are delighted to have the opportunity to market this special late airflow GT once again. Purchased by a retired engineer in 2016 the Cortina was imported from France after spending many years in storage. Converted to RHD and then recommissioned - every component was inspected with parts replaced, as necessary.
The next owner, a repeat customer with Milestones, lavished £4k over a three-year period to bring the car to his own high standard. Work included new brake servo, master cylinder, clutch slave and master cylinder, detailing under the bonnet and an interior refresh.
The history file confirms that the vin-number includes the important ‘78’ designation proving that this is an original 4 door GT.
The Cortina drives well and really looks the part sitting on her 5. 5-inch steel rims. Finished in rare beige with the super chrome strips (export model only) this car really does tick all of the boxes and draws attention/ positive comments from all quarters.
Fast Fords simply keep going up in value. Our GT is a stunning survivor, and we expect her to find an appreciative new home very quickly.
