Introduction
Here at Old Colonel Cars we are very lucky to have this stunning Alpina B12 5. 0 V12. A very rare car indeed, believed to be 1 of only 5 RHD cars produced. This is a January 1990, UK supplied car, its covered 147, 000 miles with and outstanding, fully documented service history. Mostly BMW main dealer history, with have every bill and receipt from new. The result of all this care is this car drives and performs perfectly.
Alpina took an already good 750 and made it special. They increased the performance of the 5. 0 V12 from 300bhp to 350bhp, torque is up to 470Nm at 4000rpm. In total 305 B12’s were produced by Alpina. There were just 7 UK RHD versions produced, this is 1 of 5 SWB B12’s made in RHD.
This ready to show example is finished in Diamond Black, with full Alpina detailing, along with a superb, high quality, Dark Grey Buffalo extended leather interior.
Everybody who see this car, loves it, I cant remember the last time a car caused this much fuss, it has such a presence and looks just right.
Specification
This car comes with a fantastic specification. Notable options are Electric Sport seats, Air Conditioning, Electric Sunroof, Electric windows, Electric Mirrors, OBC Computer, Cruise control, Limited Slipp Diff, EDC Suspension (Comfort and Sport modes).
Bodywork / Interior / Wheels etc
Finished in Diamond Black. Hopefully you can see from the many pictures and video, this car looks stunning. Look down the sides, across all panels, a lovely deep shine with no notable dings or dents. All arches etc are rust free and original factory metal as they should be. With the full set of Alpina decals and bodywork, this car would stand out at any show, it looks amazing.
Inside the condition is excellent. Again look at all the pictures and video, this interior is amazing shape. The high quality extended leather all looks very fresh and original, everywhere you look its the same. I wonder if modern interiors will last this well, very high quality materials where used on this special car.
The iconic Alpina alloys are all in excellent shape, no curbing or corrosion. Fitted with a matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Engine / Gearbox / Suspension
The 5. 0 V12 engine fitted to the Alpina B12’s is a superb engine. Turning a quite sleepy BMW V12 into something that wants to rev and just keeps pulling was Alpina speciality. Unlike modern special edition cars, Alpina properly rebuilt and improved the V12 engine. Replacing pistons with light weight items, bigger valves, high lift cams, changes to the electronics and cooling etc. Much in the same way as BMW later produced the motorsport engine for the 850 CSI …
The 155mph speed limiter was disabled, allowing this Alpina B12 to top 170 MPH…
The gearbox was also improved internally to be stronger and produce quicker, more responsive gear changes. The gearbox suits the engine perfectly, always eager to change gear when asked for.
The suspension Alpina improved to use EDC dampers, offering Comfort and Sport mode at the flick of a switch.
Another big improvement was the addition of the Limited Slip differential. A must on any performance car from this period ..
History
This example benefits from a fully documented service history from new. We have a very thick folder containing all service receipts and invoices from new, along with letters from Alpina, Brochures, BMW car club etc. Along with the paperwork, with have all the original manuals, an original stamped service book. If paperwork is your thing, this car wont disappoint.
Summary
This is a rare chance to own a very special car. The B12 looks amazing and is the ideal weekend classic. 7 Series cars in general from this period are becoming very collectable, here at OCC we have noticed a large increase in demand for this model this year. The Alpina B12 would compliment any collection and should only appreciate going forward.
