This one being the first of its kind to enter the UK from the US in 1997 and had been taken very good care of since. The Viper GTS is built on a backbone of tubular space frame chassis and clothed with a resin transfer and SMC molded composite body. Although retaining the same basic shape below its waistline as the Roadster, the GTS has a unique body with a ‘double-bubble’ roof line to ensure there’s plenty of headroom for driver and passenger. For the same reason, the windscreen of the GTS is taller than that of the Roadster, though it retains the same angle, width and curvature as the original Viper.
The bonnet features a NACA duct which force-feeds air into the V10 engine’s air intake, as well as E-type louvres on top of the wheel arches to prevent the buildup of air pressure under the bonnet.
The heart of this vehicle is its 8-litre V10 engine that powers the RT/ 10, which kicks out a remarkable 450 bhp.
The interior of this vehicle shows great technology for its era and houses a powerful audio system, AM/ FM radio and CD player with 200 watts boot mounted amp, which drives the 6 speaker system.
The Viper GTS features dual airbags for driver and passenger, electric windows, theft alarm, remote keyless entry system, engine immobiliser.
At the point of release, the top speed of the new Viper was 165 mph and it was capable of getting from 0 to 60mph in less than 4. 5 seconds. Given its age, it may be that you anticipate this to come down but please don’t under-estimate this machine. Its speed and handling is as good as the day it was built.
