I'm reluctantly selling my 1961 Mk 4 Met. with original engine and 3-speed box. She always brings smiles to faces wherever she goes and is a favourite at car shows! It was repatriated in 2018 and since then has been used very little due to lockdown etc. She was built in 1960 and sold in the States in 1961. Since purchase, I have had a lot of work done including:
Professionally rebuilt engine with new bearings etc. as required; new clutch including master and slave cylinders; new brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders and all flexible hoses; recon fuel pump and overhauled carb (she still has the Solex 30 vig 10); the tyres are new, as is the hood . The front seat has been re- upholstered in as close to the original US 1961 material as possible. The radio has been renovated and works (they were AM only, I'm afraid!) There is a new fitted carpet (the originals had rubber mats). The bottom half has had all rust removed, has been wax sealed and the white repainted. She isn't perfect.... The synchro is a little slow between 2 and 3 and the red paint didn't like the weather here and ideally needs repainting. there are a couple of dents in the offside rear wing (difficult to photograph but in the red painted area) - see pictures. The fuel gauge is erratic! I can email loads more detailed photos and answer any questions. All parts are available (I use Met Pit Stop). In summary, a good useable classic.
