We are delighted to offer this Wolseley 1500, a well-preserved and much-cherished car that launched soon after the London Motor Show in April 1957, so this is one of the very first ones. These were marketed as compact executive saloons, and consequently were in many ways ahead of their time.
The new Wolseleys featured the celebrated Morris Minor floorpan, suspension and steering but were equipped with the more powerful 1500cc B-Series engine and MG Magnette gearbox, a 4-speed manual boasting synchromesh on the top 3 ratios for smooth gear changes.
The bodywork is in excellent condition, corrosion-free, with very sharp edges to all sills and arches and well-kept chromework, and as the photos show, the car’s underside is rock solid and future-proofed.
This 1500 has a very stylish and appealing interior, surprisingly roomy for such a compact car, and tastefully appointed with polished walnut dashboard and trim and two-tone leather seats and door cards, all set off by deep, unmarked crimson carpets.
The engine has absolutely no problem keeping pace with modern traffic, yet having only one carburettor, it’s very fuel-efficient, another plus point for the car. At this price, the car offers an incredibly good value entry point to the classic car world, and will not disappoint.
