HERE is my 1959 MGA roadster 1600 Mark 1 in superb all round condition. It was purchased in January 2007 as a total restoration project and then finished by March the following year. Lovely example in Chariot Red and fitted with a Ford Type-9 close ratio 5-speed box which makes driving an even bigger pleasure!
SHE MAY LOOK A LITTLE ON THE ORANGE SIDE IN MY PHOTOS. BUT SHE IS RED. RED AS A TOMATO. CHARIOT RED I BELIEVE IS THE COLOUR!
This delightful true Brit sports car has covered 8, 900 miles since her total rebuild. Her hood was new at the time as were the side screens. Both are up-market made from either double duck or mohair (I am no expert) and in superb order. Another thing I like about this car is that it has been properly used. That is to say that the owner - an MG Owners Club member - drove all around the UK to rallies etc so one would assume that anyone can have total confidence in this MGA!
On the road, she is a total joy. Hugely responsive and excellent handling. You will find most examples of the marque more expensive than mine (see my previous adverts on this site and you will discover that is how I tend to operate) but I doubt if the those under the 30k-bracket are really that much better. Viewing is welcome.
Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such. This old girl for example is now 62-years-old.
