After much deliberation i have decided it is time to part ways with my first generation Twingo, quite possibly the nicest Twingo in existence outside of Renault France themselves.
Originally delivered to Italy in 1992 the car spent most of its life in Rome before being purchased by Renault UK in 2006 for use as a press car for media and club events.
Upon purchase the car was subject to a full overhaul by Renault UK including a full Glass out Repaint in original paint and a full mechanical once over.
The car has lived an entirely sheltered life since its import into the UK in 2006, having being dry stored in a carcoon as part of Renault UK's heritage fleet and remaining part of their fleet until December 2020 when the car was offered to myself as an active member of the Renault owners Club.
In my personal ownership the car has continued to be dry stored as part of my own collection and has only been used in fine weather, something which is clear by the condition of the Underside of the vehicle.
The exterior of the car is Immaculate, finished in its original shade of Coriander Green the paint is deep in shine and a credit to the restoration by Renault. All trim is as new and complete, it really is the closest you'll get to a new first generation Twingo, it also sports its original Italian Dealer stickers and Daisy wheel covers.
The interior of the Twingo shouts 90's Fun with Bold seat fabrics and Colour co-ordinated Pistachio green switch gear and keys !
The original non airbag two spoke steering wheel (on the left of Course) smooth 5 speed gearbox and centre mounted digital gauge cluster make even the most mundane of drives a joy, and the original matching factory cassette player means you can listen to your boys to men cassettes in all its crackling glory.
overall the interior is very tidy with little to signs of wear as to be expected with a vehicle that's covered only 70000km.
Mechanically the little Twingo is perfect, it has some service history from its life in Italy and was maintained to a very High standard by Renault UK, the car features service history since arriving in the UK and was MOT'd every year by Renault, I've personally continued with this level of maintenance. It also features all of its original books and keys including service literature and original accessories catalog.
I believe it has covered only around 6000KM since its import back in 2006!
The 1. 2L engines is frugal and zippy, gear changes are smooth and handling is like that of a new 90's Renault...
Under the bonnet is again Very clean and presentable with no corrosion and all trim, plastics and hoses in perfect condition.
During its time in Renault's press fleet it has featured at many different classic car events along side other Renault historic vehicles, it has also been used in various classic magazine shoots and most notably in a recent Top Gear magazine feature comparing it to once of Renault's modern equivalents, the Zoe.
furthermore Renault also used the car for various dealer and corporate events.
In summary, this is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of not only Renault modern history, but also something that is very usable and enjoyable to drive. I've absolutely loved my ownership and truly enjoyed the amounts of attention this fun little vehicle gets wherever you take it, however i feel its time to pass the car on to someone else to get the same levels of joy from.
