Fantastic Super 7 Sprint 5 speed gearbox and 1600cc Ford crossflow.
This is a Dartford factory built Caterham 7 Sprint with the long cockpit chassis option and a Caterham modified Kent engine built on a rare and desirable Ford Motorsport AX thickwall block. This was the final development at Fords improvement to the crossflow. You cannot get better.
Registered on 01/ 07/ 1997 the car left the factory, fully built on 14/ 07/ 1997, the original bill of sale comes with the car and is the 1st item in the extensive history file. The car was specified with a 5 speed gearbox in additional to all the usual extras of weathergear, hood, immobiliser and was painted in the Lotus heritage colours shown in the pictures. A further upgrade was made by a previous owner who paid Caterham specialist James Whiting to fit a recessed drivers side floorpan so that this car can easily accommodate the tallest of drivers.
The car had an engine refresh just before and during lockdown when all components showing age related deterioration were changed and then engine was given a minimum rebore and the cylinder head given addition modifications which included hardened valve seats so that the car can run on E10 spec fuel. Other sensible upgrades were added including Luminition Optronin ignition, LED fog lamp and reversing lamp, electric fuel pump The plan was to prepare the car for long term ownership sadly this is no longer the case! The car is shown with vintage Elan Mk1 rims and hubcaps, plus a 12" dia Motolita woodrim steering wheel and Caterham series 3 style bench seats , this is all at the owners preference.
Factory built 7 Sprints normally were all fitted with 6jx13" Minilight wheels, 10 " dia Leather steering wheel, Caterham bucket seats and headrests , plus K&N air filters. All these items come with the car along with a small spares package.
There will be an allowance against the advertised price if the buyer does not want the vintage wheel and hubcaps.
The car is ready to drive now and comes with a new MOT certificate forward to 17/ 10/ 2022.

Finally, this is a Q plate car, as were all Caterham crossflows of this period, the base model cars for which the components were designed for were all out of production, so DVLA rules prohibited 'normal' registration. If you want a car of this period with age correct registration look at a 16V Vauxhall or Rover K engined model which were all offered by Caterham at this time. However you will struggle to find a comparible, clean condition, full history and well sorted car at this price if you are looking for the archetypal traditional Seven.
